I see this as potentially an easy way to get people to realize they can very easily jump in and help. potentially even prompting them with the suggested correct spelling. but I was thinking about something that would scan for spelling mistakes in existing articles, then prompt new users to the site to take a look. a few spelling mistakes might be a good thing. The two I noticed were m:Spellchecking extensions and ms:Extension:Spellcheck thought it's possible they're the same. That's agreeable, even though the Firefox built in spellchecker is nice, I don't see anyone else on wiki I administrate finding any way to spellcheck things. Now topic: The biggest issue i see with any spell check is that of the language barriers, what if the error is done on purpose?, what if like other people i navigate a french wiki with preference set in spanish and i want to write in english to communicate or be it german if i knew some one knew german. Off topic: Moving was the best option as pages listed here appear because of the category in the template not because of their name. So intead of moving it i made a new page, because it would have made a redirect page also.
I know it looks that way, but I wanted it to be a capital "C" in Check, not just fix the forum. This is unrelated but just so you know your topic Forum:Spell check didn't have to be recreated to be placed in the appropriate forum section: you could just edit the top line of it. Or add a new button, just like the other ones that have been showing up: Make a map, add a video. Im a modest wiki editor, mostly categorizing files and articles, but no matter what every page i come across has some sort of spelling eeror :) I've been trying to embed a spell check on a wiki page but being a novice its beyond me.įor now i just edit & copy everything on the page and run it through the spell checker.Īlthough i prefer the old style editor (being someone who wiki edits in Microsoft notepad, I'm old school), it might be a better idea to add it to the new editor it might get me to use it.
